Coron Series: Coron Tours and Itinerary

DAY 1: CORON TOWN TOUR

Last April 2, 2017, we went to Coron for a familiarization tour. On our first day, we did a Coron Town Tour to see what Coron Town can offer. It was actually my first time visiting Coron so I was really excited.

Mt. Tapyas

Our first stop was on Souvenir Shop to buy Pasalubong. Unfortunately, the souvenir shop was closed every Sunday so we went to our next destination, the Lualhati Park.

Lualhati Park

Lualhati is a tagalog word means peace. Lualhati Park is a part of docking point of ships and boats in Coron. From here, you can see the view of Mt. Tapyas and offers a nice view of bay and nearby Islands in Coron. There was also a dry market near here and vendors selling things that you need for island hopping tours and souvenirs for pasalubong.

Lualhati Park

After Lualhati Park, we stop for a few minutes at Municipal Hall of Coron. There is nothing to do here so we moved to our next destination which is the Maquinit Hotspring.

Maquinit Hotspring

Maquinit Hotspring is quiet far at Coron Town and it takes 20-25 minutes travel. It is usually the last destination of Coron Town tour where you can have a relaxing dip after a tiring trek at Mt. Tapyas (We escaped the Mt. Tapyas trek today).

DAY 2: CORON ULTIMATE TOUR

On our next day in Coron, we did the most awaited Coron Ultimate Tour! They picked up us in our hotel at 8:30am and headed directly at the port near Lualhati Park. On this tour, we will visit the most famous islands here in Coron.

Port

Siete Pecados is the first stop of our tour. Siete Pecados is a Latin word that means "seven sins." According to the Urban myth, long time ago, there were seven sibling who went to the other island to swim and relax instead of helping their mother in household choirs. Due to anger, their mother curses them. When the seven siblings were on their way home, suddenly a strong typhoon came. Since then, the seven siblings were not able to find and the seven islets was suddenly appear on the sea.

Siete Pecados

Siete Pecados is a group of islands which is good for snorkeling. But, don't forget to wear your aqua shoes to avoid being stung by jelly fish, sea urchins and stone fish.

After a short time of staying here, we proceed to our next destination, the barracuda lake. But, before here, we stopped at Kayangan Lake to take pictures. (Unfortunately, Kayangan Lake was closed on the day of our visit due to drowning incident of the two foreigners that leads to their death).

Kayangan Lake

When we arrived at the entrance of Barracuda Lake, our tour guide advises us to wear our life vest for safety. We have to climb a very tiny stairs in the middle of taraw cliff before reaching the Lake.

Barracuda Lake was named because of the sightings of Barracuda in the said area. This lake contains 70% of fresh water and 30% of it is salt water.

FRIENDLY REMINDER: Don't wear shiny things when you swim here because Barracuda was attracted to shiny things and they might attack you. Although there is no such incident here that Barracuda attacks human.

Entrance to Barracuda Lake

Shipwreck snorkeling site is our next destination. Here, we were able to see one of the Japanese shipwrecks during World War II. We just stopped here for a few minutes because we are too excited for our lunch.

We ate our lunch at Banol Beach. They serve us different variety of dishes such as chicken inasal, shirmp, grilled fish, lato, eggplant ensalada, pipino salad and watermelon.

Here are the some of the photos of our food:

Banol beach is also good for picture taking, swimming and sunbathing. Aside from CYC beach, this is the island where kids can swim. The crystal clear water of this beach will surely mesmerized everyone.

Banol Beach

After our lunch, we went to our next destination, the CYC Beach. CYC is an abbreviation word for Coron Youth Camp. We just passed by here because all of us were too excited to see twin the lagoon.

After the few minutes, we finally reached the twin lagoon. There are two ways to enter the other side of lagoon. Its either you will swim at the hole or you will climb at Taraw.

Twin lagoon is 51 feet deep. So for those who are not good in swimming, make sure that you always wear your life vest. After here, we finally headed back to the port. We actually finished this tour early because we didn't stop for a long time on other islands.

On this day also, we chose to do the trekking at Mt. Tapyas. The best time to climb Mt. Tapyas is in the afternoon to see the sunset and in the morning before sunrise.

Mt. Tapyas

Mt. Tapyas is actually a good exercise. You will climb 701 steps and in the top of it you will be able to see the whole town of Coron and the beautiful view of sunset or sunrise---a simple reward after a tiring trek.

FRIENDLY TIP: Wear comfortable clothes and shoes upon trekking. Bring water and towel as you will sweat too much on this activity.

On our third day here in Coron, we chose to do the Calauit Safari Tour. The usual pick up time for this tour is 5:30-6:00 in the morning. It takes two hours travel by van and around 5-10 minutes by boat before you can reach the island of Calauit.

After a few minutes, we finally arrived in Caluit Island!

Information Office

Inside of their information office, they are also selling T-shirts for Souvenirs starting from P250.00!

Calauit is a game preserved and wildlife sanctuary created by the former President Ferdinand Marcos. It was due to the request of Kenya to help them save their African wildlife in war and drought.

Calauit Safari tour will actually bring you to little Africa of the Philippines where you can see a real giraffes, zebras and antelopes. Caluit Island is also a home of Calamian Deers.

You can also feed giraffes and they will not harm you. It cost P80.00 only for the feeding of giraffes. But, if you book a tour package it was already included.
